Editorial Policy

We want you to trust what you read here, so this page sets out where our facts come from, how we check them, how we rank the apps, and how we make money. If we ever fall short of it, tell us and we will put it right.

Who writes this site

Best Betting Apps is written by our editorial team. We are not employed by any bookmaker, no bookmaker pays us to write anything, and none of them sees a page before it goes live. We write about licensed South African betting apps and nothing else. We do not cover unlicensed offshore sites, and we do not recommend anywhere that does not hold a South African provincial licence.

How we check a bookmaker

  • We go to the bookmaker’s own website. Their help centre, their app page, their banking pages, their promotions page and their footer. A comparison site or a press release is not a source.
  • We look on a South African connection, on a phone. Many bookmaker pages only show the real offer, the real app routes and the real footer to a South African visitor. We read them the way you will see them.
  • We use their words. If a bookmaker lists its deposit methods, we list those methods. If it prints a licence number, we print that number.
  • We check the licence. Every bookmaker we list holds a licence from a South African provincial licensing authority. We name the authority and, where the bookmaker publishes it, the number.
  • We read every page that could hold a fact. One page is a skim. Before we write about an app we read the app page, the promotions, the FAQ, the banking pages and the terms.
  • If we cannot find it on their site, we do not say it. We say we could not confirm it and we say why. A bookmaker that hides its welcome offer terms behind a banner gets told so on the page.

What we do not do

  • We do not copy other websites. Most betting app pages in South Africa were copied from each other, and a good few describe the UK version of an app that does not work here.
  • We do not invent figures. If a bookmaker does not publish a withdrawal time or a bonus breakdown, the page says so.
  • We do not promise you will win. Nobody can.
  • We do not list unlicensed bookmakers, for any money.
  • We do not give tips.

How we rank the apps

Four things decide a rating: the licence, the welcome offer as it really is, what the app is actually good at, and how easily you get money in and out. The full method, with what moves a score up or down, is on our how we rate betting apps page. Money never moves the order. If a bookmaker’s commission decided its place on the list, this page would be worthless to you.

How we make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and open an account, the bookmaker may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing and it does not change your odds, your bonus or your account. Every site like ours works this way. The difference is whether the money decides what gets written, and here it does not. The detail is on our affiliate disclosure.

Keeping it current

  • We re-check the bookmakers we list. Welcome offers, app routes and payment methods change without notice.
  • We say when something has changed. If a bookmaker drops a payment method or an offer, the page is updated to say so.
  • We mark what we cannot confirm. An honest gap beats a made up fact.
  • We keep the legal position current. South African gambling law is set by the National Gambling Act and the nine provincial boards, and where a product is being argued over in the courts we say so rather than picking a side.

Mistakes and corrections

If something here is wrong, email info@bestbettingapps.co.za and we will fix it and say what changed. If a bookmaker thinks we have its product wrong, the fastest fix is to send us the page on its own site that shows the correct position. We will use that and nothing else.

Our independence

We do not take payment for a review, a rating, a position on a list, or a link dressed up as editorial. If a bookmaker asks, the answer is no. Our readers are South African punters, and the only thing we owe them is the truth about the app they are about to install.

Nobody under 18 may gamble in South Africa. Gambling comes with a real risk of addiction and is never a way to earn. Winners know when to stop. Talk to the National Responsible Gambling Programme free on 0800 006 008, or WhatsApp HELP to 076 675 0710.
